Music

Intent

At the Federation of All Saints and St Margaret’s Catholic Voluntary Academies we aim to engage and inspire pupils to develop their talent as musicians, and in so doing to increase their self-confidence, creativity, sense of achievement and well-being.

Pupils will be taught music in a way that ensures progression of skills and follows a sequence of knowledge to build on previous learning.

The aims of our music curriculum are to develop pupils who:

  • Can sing and use their voices individually and in a group
  • Create and compose music on their own and with others
  • Have opportunities to play a wide variety of tuned and untuned percussion instruments
  • Listen to, review and evaluate the work of great composers and musicians from a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions
  • Enjoy and have an appreciation of a range of different musical styles e.g. Classical, Jazz, Hip Hop, Pop, Rock, and feel able to make their own unique contribution or response to it.
  • Use and understand musical language and include musical features in their own work
  • Have the opportunity to learn to play an instrument
  • Have different opportunities to take part in performances

We aim for every child to leave All Saints & St Margaret’s with a range of musical skills, knowledge and an understanding and love of music which they can carry with them for the rest of their lives.
