Bishop Patrick’s Spiritual Themes

At All Saints and St Margarets, the Bishop’s themes are interwoven in lots of elements of school life. From our acts of worship to our Mini Vinnie’s foci; from RE to our charity fundraising.

ENCOUNTER: Bishop Patrick aims to ensure that people of all ages are helped to discover, or discover more deeply, the importance of a personal ENCOUNTER with Christ; so that they can know more deeply that they are each loved by God and are invited to grow in their relationship with him.

DISCIPLESHIP: As well as a personal encounter with Christ, Bishop Patrick would like to encourage us all to hear and respond to his invitation to be his DISCIPLES, by following him more closely, and serving him more generously in our daily lives.

MISSIONARY DISCIPLESHIP: By being more open to the help, guidance and inspiration of the Holy Spirit, we can all become MISSIONARY DISCIPLES, filled with faith and joy. We can look outwards, growing in confidence to speak of the difference that knowing Christ more closely has made to our lives. We can be disciples of Christ, committing to serving our brothers and sisters – especially those most in need of our support.

These themes that Bishop Patrick have given us, remind us of what Jesus asks of his disciples, “Go, make disciples of all nations”; they remind us that the Church is called to be missionary.

Holy Mass with Bishop Patrick

We joined the children of the St Ralph Sherwin CMAT at St Mary’s church, Derby – July 2025

Pilgrimage and Adoration

Cherry class went on pilgrimage to St Joseph’s Eucharistic Shrine in Stockport which has been designated as Jubilee place of pilgrimage.

The children prayed a decade of the Rosary with Father Sean.

The children had a special opportunity to pray in front of a relic of St Carlo Acutis!

Mrs Hall, Lay Chaplain, led the children in Eucharistic Adoration. The children sang ‘O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, All praise and all thanksgiving, Be every moment thine.’

Travelling Crib

During Advent, all children get the opportunity to take the ‘travelling crib’ set home to share with their family.

Saints and Superheroes Retreat Day

Saint Margaret’s school spent the day finding out about their house saints. The Saints can be role models showing us how to be disciples of Jesus. The children considered the virtues of faith, hope and love.

St Carlo Acutis

To mark the canonisation of the first millennial Saint, the children of All Saints spent a day finding out about the life of St Carlo Acutis.

Carlo Acutis used technology to share his faith. The children used ipads to scan QR codes finding quotes from the new Saint. They also created pixel art of religious symbols inspired by St Carlo’s love of computer gaming.

They explored the vocabulary of Eucharist, Blessed Sacrament, Miracles and Monstrance.

“To always be close to Jesus, that’s my life plan.” St Carlo Acutis

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second most important commandment is this: ‘Love your neighbour as you love yourself.’ There is no other commandment more important than these two.”

Mark 12:30-31

Easter Gardens

The children of St Margaret’s made Easter gardens to share with the community.

All Saints walk a ‘Merry Mile’ for Blythe House

Harvest donations for Glossopdale Foodbank

All Saints collected donations for the local foodbank as they gave thanks for the Harvest.

Foodbank Donations

Generous donations from St Margaret’s for the local foodbank G52.

Visiting local nursing homes

Year 6 are regular visitors to Pennine Care Home. They enjoy crafts and games with the residents.

A visit from the local CAFOD representative

All Saints school invited the local CAFOD representative into school to find out more about CAFOD’s World Gifts.
The children have fundraised almost £300 which CAFOD will use to help families affected by conflict and vulnerable families living in remote areas around the world during the harsh winter.
The children completed activities helping them to understand the aims of the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development, how they can spread HOPE in the Jubilee Year and how together they ‘can help build a better world’.
